Evaluation with FTIR +Turunen, M J; Jurvelin, J S; Kröger, H; Isaksson, H +University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio, Finland, Kuopio University Hospital, Kuopio, Finland, Lund University, Lund, Sweden [email protected] INRODUCTION: Bone structure and composition adapt to its mechanical loading environment [1] and show variations with age [2,3]. Trabecular bone is highly metabolically active, and is expected to change its composition of the organic and inorganic matrices during remodeling. Hence, the molecular composition of trabecular bone may vary between different anatomical locations due to different mechanical loading and remodeling rates. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy provides a tool for fast measurements of the molecular composition of bone [2-6]. Our aim was to compare the molecular composition of human trabecular bone from three anatomical locations with different mechanical loading environment. Moreover, the changes in molecular composition of bone with age during adult life were investigated.

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the dentomaxillofacial radiographic changes in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who were on hemodialysis. Methods: Parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) measurements, as well as Panoramic and periapical radiographs were obtained from seventy four patients with a history of end stage renal disease (ESRD). The Correlation between Trabecular Bone Score and Lumbar Spine Bone Mineral Density in Patients with Normal and High Body Mass Index

Background: Trabecular bone score (TBS) measures the underlying quality of bone texture using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) images. The present study aimed to investigate the correlation between lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) and TBS, and subsequently determine whether the association varies with the body mass index (BMI). Methods: Data from 548 patients were collected a...

Trabecular bone changes induced by fast neutrons versus gamma rays in mice

Background: The trabecular bone changes in the tibia of C3H/HeN mice were measured 12 weeks after whole body irradiation with various doses of fast neutrons (0-2.4 Gy) or 137Cs-generated gamma-rays (0-6 Gy). Materials and Methods: Serum calcium, phosphorus, estradiol concentration and alkaline phosphatase activity were measured. Tibiae were anal...

MSK Tumors and Marrow Evaluation Bone Marrow

(i) Introduction Bone marrow consists of trabecular bone and a variety of cells including hematopoetic, fat, stroma and reticuloendothelial system cells as well as sinsusoids. The weight of the bone marrow is approximately 5% of the whole body weight. Bone marrow composition changes with age, which is reflected in a change in signal characteristics in MR images. Red marrow, which is found in yo...
